The FLEXO Color Guide Edition X takes the guesswork out of printing your corrugated boxes – because your ink samples are printed on actual corrugated linerboard, using current mill production roll stock.

In 1949, the Glass Container Manufacturers Institute (GCMI) created the FLEXO Color Guide. This guide featured a variety of inks, numbered for easy identification and shown on both white and kraft paper. Since then, the guide has been updated multiple times as inks have been added or modified, but the general principle remains the same. The guide allows manufacturers to easily communicate ink options with clients, ensuring consistent results.

The most recent GCMI guide, edition x, has a total of 42 colors to choose from. GCMI colors are standard across corrugated packaging manufacturers. Your manufacturer should be able to provide you with color swatches of the different options on either white or kraft paper, so you can select the ones that best fit your project. There are various places online that show previews of different colors as well. But while these can be helpful for seeing the general options, you shouldn’t use them in place of physical swatches when making a final color selection

  • Flexo Color Guide for Printing Inks on Corrugated – New Edition X
  • Edition X includes inks printed on both white top and natural (brown) substrates
  • In addition, it also includes inks from the previous edition, along with two grey inks from Edition VIII.

The FLEXO Color Guide features more vibrant colors as well as today’s safer inks.

You’ll see how each color looks on white top (mottled) and natural kraft stock. For Edition X, all inks from Edition IX have been included, with the addition of two gray inks.

The result – a team effort by glass, ink, and box manufacturers – makes it simple for you to achieve the highest possible industry color standards.

The Flexo Color Guide is a comprehensive tool used in the field of flexographic printing to accurately and consistently match and communicate colors. It typically consists of a set of color swatches or samples that represent a wide range of colors achievable through flexographic printing processes. Each swatch is labeled with its corresponding color values, such as Pantone, CMYK, or other color space references, making it easier for designers, printers, and other stakeholders to select, specify, and reproduce desired colors in the printed materials.

Flexographic printing is commonly used for packaging materials, labels, and various types of flexible substrates. The Flexo Color Guide serves as a visual reference for the colors that can be reproduced using flexographic printing technology, aiding in maintaining color consistency across different print runs and ensuring that the final printed products align with the intended color scheme. It is an indispensable tool for professionals in the printing industry to achieve accurate and vibrant color representations in their work.
